The New Media Era and it's advantage for Film Makers
The cinema of Nigeria, often referred to as Nollywood, consists of films produced in Nigeria; its history dates back to as early as the late 19th century and into the colonial era in the early 20th century. With an average production of over 2,500 movies per year– 2,408, 2,514 and 2,621 in 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively, Nigeria ranks has Africa’s largest producer. Bollywood on the other hand churns out an average of 800 movies yearly, which is more than double the amount of feature films produced by Hollywood.

Last year, data was released showing that Nollywood is a $3 billion industry. It is bigger than Hollywood by volume, and right behind India’s Bollywood according to www.fortune.com Facebook is the largest social networking company.

As of January 2016, Facebook’s monthly active users reached 1.55 billion, or 22 per cent of the entire world’s population (16million of these number are Nigerians).  Facebook's other services have 900 million users (WhatsApp), 800 million users (Facebook Messenger) and 400 million users (Instagram), globally, according to Statista, a leading statistics company on the internet. - See more This is the reason why adequate information needs to be paid to see how film makers can leverage on this technological insight.

  1.  Film making in this Digital age (Production technology/Technical know-how) How can we produce better film for great viewing experience using technically advanced approach and more.
  2. Leveraging the Power of Digital Media in Promotion & Marketing How can we market, promote and monetize your content and reach your target reach/penetration.
  3. Seeking funding for your project. - You have come up with an amazing script or story but do not have the knowledge on how to source for funds or partner with production companies. - Knowing when to sell your script and when not to. - Knowing the legal decision to make when seeking funding and/or partnership.

Innovation Nation: Government and startups co-building the future

The rapid emergence of startups in Nigeria is catalyzing the ability of the nation to enhance its productivity, generate employment, and appeal to international consumers and investors. In order for these emerging enterprises to serve as true engines of economic growth, government must play a role in creating an enabling environment that allows these businesses to thrive. This includes:

  • Policies and regulations that lower barriers to entry in the market (tax, subsidies, preferential regulation, investment capital, etc)

  • Quality education systems to meet market demands

  • Access to global markets and supply chain

  • Business support services

  • Education and workforce development

In Lagos specifically, government has been playing a pivotal role in co-creating the future with the private sector and with universities. Here we discuss break-throughs and set-backs.

Manufacturing & Hardware : The Next Era of Global Growth
In this session: we explore the viability of cutting-edge technologies such as 3D printing, in accelerating and enabling a true manufacturing layer, sustained and powered by bottom-up innovation, Maker culture and market-forces. Economists argue that Africa’s decade-long growth has been stunted, putting the continent’s ‘Africa Rising’ narrative at risk. Why? Its lack of a mature manufacturing industry. Despite many attempts to resuscitate this key Nigerian sector, it has remained a laggard, far behind the successes of the telecoms and financial sector. Manufacturing equips a nation with the capabilities to export competitive home-grown products to play on a global scale. Future global economic growth drivers point towards new technology opportunties at the intersection between software, data and hardware. From Facebook to Amazon, we have entered the Age of the Maker, where physical devices and solutions bring digital efficiencies into the real world. 3D Printing technologies will set product development and manufacturing free – reducing SME costs and accelerating product go-to-market - much like the internet democratized information.

Join us for a special panel and debate, with leading local and global experts within manufacturing, product design / development and 3D printing, to explore the future of manufacturing.

NASA Space Apps Nigeria's mission is to catalyze effective, home-grown innovation through community-led collaboration, and local capacity-building efforts. It achieves this by connecting youth and ecosystem , to broader technologies, thought-leadership, fit-for-purpose tools and global knowledge-transfer players.

Lagos Comic Con
The event features a central stage for exhibition/sales, keynotes and panels, multiple rooms for workshops, master classes and presentations, and an area dedicated to co-working, networking and interactive installations.

Also there are lots of competitions and movie screenings that make the event fun to be at. The Creative industry has emerged as one of the world’s most dynamic economic sectors. Available data shows that the creative industry has facilitated cultural, social and economic development in most developed economies.

As Nigeria tries to diversify her economy and move away from its over dependence on oil, the creative industry can play a role in this process with the government fully not understanding the potential of Nigeria’s creative industry.  Our goal this year is to bring a correlation between Nigeria's Creative industry and the growth in its economy.
